Digital or Analogue?  Reply with quote

Thought I would put this post back up since it generated quite a discussion last time round before we moved servers and lost our database....

These days the move to digital photography is almost complete, with analogue taking a back seat. Some purists still use anaglogue cameras, as there are certain things which cannot as yet be done with digital cameras. The same goes for movie cameras. Yes its easier to composite with digital, and far cheaper to shoot the big buck blockbusters, but still, is this situation not symptomatic of a "throw away disposable society" which is far more interested in the quick fix or solution rather than the creative effort needed to produce really good work?

Anyway, you guys tell me!

All the best,

T.

Hey there Buddy!

When you get the camera, maybe you can post a review of it up here on the forums for all of us to read. I must admit that your other EOS is extremely cool!

gundanwingrx2: If you want to get work in the photo business you really need to get your own portfolio online with at least some pieces of your own work to show off. Wink

...speaking of which have a website to update with some photos - back to the grindstone for me.

Well, I voted "Digital" above, but it's kind of a forked question. It depends what you want to do with it.

For still photos, I would recommend digital to happy-snappers, cheapskates, and techno-freaks. I would recommend analogue (photo-sensitive film) to those that NEED that professional edge, and those that want to inflate the size of the output print bigger than A2 size.

The basic rule of thumb for still photography is get digital unless you have a specific need to use Analogue.

Video is a different matter though. Digital is most definitely the wave of the future. However, digital video has a kind of "clean" appearance that doesn't suit all productions. A lot of film and television companies (most in fact) still shoot on photo-sensitive film as the results are simply more pleasing to the eye. Having said that, they are often Digitally Enhanced / ReMastered afterwards, so you are actually viewing a digital film. The difference is just the method of capture.

The best advice I can give is test, test, and test again. Try digital first, and if you can't get the style / quality you are after with the best digital kit, try analogue. But beware, you will run out of cash faster than you can say "Whoops!" Smile

If it helps any, I am 100% digital for audio, video, and stills, and I have never had any complaints Wink (ooo-er) Very Happy

Hope that helps Wink
