Which Songs?  Reply with quote

To go with the completion of the review I thought I would pose a little question to all lovers of things Sanchez.....

As you all know, Mike used to be the frontman of the Big Town Playboys. They released a lot of tracks together, and I'm one of those people who fall into the camp of preferring Mike's new sound, and feel that a lot of the earlier releases would benefit from being re-recorded with Mike's new ensemble. From the "portions" to his full R&B review complement, the Mike Sanchez sound is now a lot beefier than before, partly I think because his voice is getting better with age and experience (who said getting older was a bad thing?), and I think also due to the ensemble that Mike's put together.

Many greatest hits albums are being released on an almost constant basis, and it occurs to me that if I were ever to release a greatest hits album, I think my fans would be more appreciative of a disc which made an attempt to revist the songs (after all they would have already bought the original copies), so here goes the question:

If you had to choose 10 tracks from his earlier recordings, in particular the Big Town Playboy catalogue, for Mike to re-record with his new ensemble of musicians, which would you pick?

Tim,

In answer to your question:

If I had to choose 10 tracks from Mike's earlier recordings, in particular the Big Town Playboy , for Mike to re-record with his new ensemble of musicians, I'd pick the following tracks:

JAM UP

HAPPY PAY DAY

DONE DONE IT

RED HOT MAMMA

RAMBLIN' BOOGIE

COME ON

MY GIRL JOSEPHINE

IT'LL BE ME

COMPANION BLUES

ROOMIN' HOUSE BOOGIE

That was pretty tough, they are all good!!! Now see what you've done I'm playing the OFF THE CLOCK CD When I should be working, never mind it's Friday Laughing Oh no! Now I'm listening to DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS, is eleven ok? Rolling Eyes

Hi RhythmGirl! Welcome to the forums!

There are some great choices in that list, pretty much in line with what I would have chosen!

BTW, listening to Mike whilst working (or instead of for that matter) is in my opinion an extremely worthwhile use of your time. Wink
